‘Telecom Media Technology’-entrepreneur with over 20 years of purebred networking experience. Since 2004 founder of business incubator Entelligence: for pre-seed funding, mentoring & coaching and valorisation mentoring regarding start-ups that concern themselves with Online Media, ICT & automation, Health or Lifelong Learning.

Ruben was instrumental in signing up the initial 50,000 subscribers of the first commercial Dutch Internet provider, Planet Internet, a spin-off of the Dutch national telco KPN. Also, Ruben had ultimate responsibility for bringing in Apple users to Planet Internet.

At DPG Media (formerly known as PCM Publishers) he created various digital flagship products such as the first profitable electronic newspaper at the Dutch national newspaper, de Volkskrant (the Volkskrant E-mail) and the Volkskrant Webshop.

Subsequently, he led a path of growth related to online exploitation at publishing house Hachette Filipacchi Media Netherlands BV (HFM) which also resulted in a Media Mercur Award Crossmedia Concept of the Year for ELLE. He undertook final responsibility for structuring the exclusive joint venture between HFM and the Dutch Soccer Association (KNVB) and launched Football Media BV., the organization responsible for the content and turnover of Voetbal.nl (the official complete site for all 1.3 million members of KNVB) and OnsOranje.nl (the site of all national soccer teams). After a transfer to a permanent management team, Ruben pioneered online recommendation services with several corporate spin-offs.

Since 2004 he is also the founder of Entelligence b.v., an academic business incubator that invests in spin-offs of universities and provides guidance to scholars who want to transform into an entrepreneur. A recent example is Sophia Medica b.v., conceived by two professors of the University of Amsterdam (in job knowledge, learning analytics, job crafting and organizational behaviour) and a thought-leading general practitioner, which is leading the way with innovative assessments and help general practitioners discover the blind spots in their personal medical knowledge.

Entelligence provides pre-seed funding, (valorization) mentoring and coaching at start-ups in the field of Online Media, ICT & automation, Health & Life-Long Learning. With CJKR Entelligence is also developing the Hero’s Journey Framework, a transformative coaching framework for entrepreneurial academics, start-up entrepreneurs and millennials based on “ heroic intelligence ”, related to transversal skills as implied by professor Joseph John Campbell in ‘The Hero’s Journey’ (the common template of a broad category of narratives based on comparative mythology and comparative religion).

During his sabbatical, Ruben also learned to invest in other "forms of capital" that are transferable to new generations, e.g. his two daughters, or via his dedication to multiple volunteering roles. Ruben has volunteered at the project ‘Make the Surinamese slave registers public’, a collaboration between Anton de Kom University of Suriname (Paramaribo, Suriname) and Radboud University (Nijmegen, the Netherlands). Ruben also still volunteers as a reader at the Voorlees Express Amsterdam, where he reads on a weekly basis for an hour per week to a child from a low-literacy family and was asked to be an official ambassador on reading skills.

As an answer to the increasing online information pollution Make Media Great Again (MMGA.io) was initiated by Ruben in 2017. MMGA is a blockchain-based annotation platform in which screened & trained expert and/or critical thinking readers (with hundreds of registrants) can provide constructive feedback to high-impact news sites concerning the use of sources and other quality aspects of news articles to correct misinformation and combat disinformation; NU.nl and AD.nl, two of the 'Big Four' largest Dutch online news platforms signed up as a co-development partner.

He has shared MMGA's journey with the European Commission but also many others, including through platforms such as Spotify and Issuu , and at events as the Post-Truth Conference on Malta, which included speakers from Google, Worldbank, Wikipedia, MIT and The Economist. In midst 2020 MMGA was acquired by Internet Society.
